Stencil Graffiti Love

Anytime I see stencil graffiti, I basically stop in my tracks... and to say that I love it is kind of an understatement!

Street art has always inspired me, and I was delighted to discover the fantastic blog, The Street to Art.

Creativity and grit go so nicely together!

Prippy Bars... Tapestry Bar at The Breakers

Tonight my man is in Palm Beach for a work dinner at The Breakers, one of my all time favorite places.

I made him promise me to have a cocktail at one of the most beautiful bars in our country... The Tapestry Bar.

It truly is a classic, as is the rest of the fabulous hotel. The bar itself is worth the trip!

Wish I was there with him, sipping a champagne cocktail at this very minute...

Happy as a (green) Hippo...

It's no secret that Prippys love flip-flops... so it should be no surprise that I'm in love with this hippo made of flip-flops! And the story behind Flippo Hippo is even better.

Made of thousands of discarded flip-flops that have washed up on the African shoreline, this hippo is more than just cute... he's environmentally friendly and can be purchased on the amazing Global Crafts site.

Rather than letting these flip-flops ruin the environment and hurt marine life, the community turns them into works of art. So inspiring and creative.

I think this guy would be perfect in a little noodle's room!

Puppy + Beach = Doggy Heaven

A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a weekend at the beach. It was heaven in all of our books, but we agreed that Scrapple seemed to be the happiest camper!

Prada Perfect

How much do you love this look!

Prada's postcard sunglasses are my favorite for summer, and I'm digging the orangey red lips.

In My Library... The Hermes Scarf: History and Mystique

Did you guys know there's a whole entire book about the art behind a Hermes scarf?

Well there is... and it is absolutely gorgeous! The new book is called The Hermes Scarf: History and Mystique, and it's as beautiful as you would think!

Chin Chin...

Who wouldn't want to raise a cocktail in these glasses? I think someone I know is having a Tom Collins in one as I type!

Jonathan Adler's wit and style are once again spot on!

You can find them for sale in DC at Après Peau... my go-to gift shop for special Prippys!

Sleep, Prippy, Sleep...

Wanna see my new bedding?... You do?!?

Well, that's it in the pic above! I love it so. DwellStudio hits another one out of the park... peacock stye!

A Prippy Must-See... Somewhere

Have you guys seen the preview for Sofia Coppola's newest film, "Somewhere," due out in December?

I know it's ways away... but I'm already looking forward to it! She's definitely a Prippy icon. Her films are truly works of art that definitely inspire me.

I can still remember how I felt after seeing "Lost in Translation" in the theater. It was so honest, and the simple storytelling touched my heart.

Plus, you know there will be a killer soundtrack!

Sparkly Things... Alexis Bittar

The first big jewelry purchase I made was a pair of Alexis Bittar hoop earrings in 1998... and I've been collecting his pieces ever since!

His carved lucite earrings, bracelets, rings, and necklaces are gorgeous. They add a modern touch to anything you could possibly be wearing, while still looking classic. His heavy antique influence makes the pieces absolutely timeless.

Plus, his story is awesome! As a kid, he was intrigued by vintage jewelry, and he sold pieces in his teens to pay for a club life in NYC.

As Alexis left his partying days behind him, he focused on creating his own pieces, eventually selling his goods on a street corner in Soho. People took notice, and so began his jewelry line's success.

Statement jewelry has always been a staple in a Prippy's wardrobe, and I can't wait to stop in Alexis' Bleecker Street shop the next time I'm in NYC!

Prippy Mix... You Can Call Me Al

I needed a good laugh yesterday after a long work day, to get me in vacation mode for my long weekend... and Paul Simon did the trick!

Did anyone else forget how hilarious this video is? Loves it. A Prippy Classic!

A Prippy Must-See... The Art of the Steal

Last night, my fantastic friend and I saw "The Art of the Steal" at the Corcoran Museum here in DC.

It's an amazing documentary about how Dr. Albert C. Barnes' vision for his personal art collection, one of the most amazing in the world, was completely destroyed by corruption and politics in my motherland of Philadelphia.

I definitely recommend you check it out!

The story is super fascinating... I remember the battle going down while I was living in Center City Philly during grad school. Unbelievable to see how things turned out (see it for yourself... I'm not ruining it!).

If only I could have met the amazing man himself, Dr. Barnes... maybe someday, in another world, I'll have my dream dinner party with Albert and Peggy Guggenheim seated next to Muhammad Ali and David Bowie.

Prippy Outfitter... Belljar

Have to admit, I love shopping. Luz it! Love it so. And I don't even need to buy something to be happy doing it!

So I thought it only appropriate to share shops I love with you guys!

For my inaugural post, I've got to talk about the fabulous BellJar in San Fran's Mission neighborhood.

Now it's no secret that I love the Mission, and BellJar sums up everything that makes a store great... handmade pieces, wit, wide price range, and beautiful presentation.

Gorgeous silk blouse... CHECK

MOR soap bar egg... CHECK

In God We Trust necklace... CHECK

Definitely check it out if you find yourself in the great SF. Then grab a beer down the street at the 500 Club!

Prippy Tripping... with Scrapple

Scrapple loves a good road trip... as do all Prippys!

In fact, we leave tomorrow night for my family's beach home on the Jersey Shore (not what you'd expect!).

But what Scrapple doesn't love is when he has to be relegated to his box. Sad Scrap!

Prippy Inspiration... Dr. Albert C. Barnes

“The Barnes Foundation is the only sane place to see art in America.”
- Henri Matisse

More on this tomorrow...

Delicious, Delicious... People's Pops

It got hot in a hurry in DC, but thankfully the past 2 days have been a bit of a reprieve!

But even without the sweltering beat down thanks to old man humidity, I've had frozen deliciousness on the brain... especially in the form of People's Pops.

I was fortunate enough to stumble across their shop in Chelsea Market the last time I was in NYC, and had to try the Plum Tarragon Yogurt. Heavenly!

Their business is brilliant! I'm obsessed with just about ever damn aspect of it. The flavors are seasonal, creative, and super tasty. And their branding is genius, as is their blog.

Now if only I can convince them to have a DC stand... at Eastern Market perhaps... I'd be sublimely happy and cool all summer (well at least when I had one). I'd even man the stand!

Prippys for People's Pops!

Prippy Mix... Bonnie and Clyde

I've had Luna's version of Bonnie and Clyde stuck in my head for the past week! So I thought it only right to share it with you in original form with Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot.

This song is most certainly in my top 10! As a huge music fan, I'm going to try and incorporate more of it into my posts... so hope you enjoy.

What's on your top 10?

MAC to the Rescue...

On Saturday, I was in a pinch trying to rush around Georgetown before a black tie event, when I realized my cosmetics bag was at work.

What's a girl to do?

Well, I hit every makeup store I could, to see if anyone was available to doll me up... and I got BEYOND lucky that Sasha at MAC was there to help!

Now, truth be told I hadn't used MAC cosmetics in years, but I've now added a bunch of their products to my daily routine. Seriously, this stuff is amazing!

Sasha was incredible and created the perfect smokey eye/dewy skin/pale lip look that transformed me. I can be pretty critical of how others do my makeup, and she definitely did the best job!

I completely recommend any DC ladies to pay her, and the other folks at MAC, a visit. Especially if you have a special night out! Oh... and the packaging for their summer line is Prippy heaven!

Prippy Gear... TOMS Shoes

I'm pretty convinced that TOMS are the most comfortable thing to put on your feet outside of flips, and the fact that there's a brilliant cause behind them just makes them even greater!

They are Prippy gear for sure...

And I love the pair I picked up in San Fran pictured above. So comfortable. So cute.

Prippys of Influence... 9 By Design

With the finale tonight on Bravo, I had to share my fellow bloggers' love for the 9 By Design crew.

Robert and Cortney Novogratz are beyond cool. Love them.

Will any of you be watching?

P.S. I went to the Sixx Design site and they play one of my fave tunes, "Bonnie and Clyde" by Luna. Sigh... great taste!

Amazing Life... Leonora Carrington

Leonora Carrington has been a woman in history who absolutely and completely captivates, inspires, and fascinates me.

Have you heard of her?

She was a famous artist and writer in Europe, and very involved in the Surrealist movement. She fell in love with the dynamic Max Ernst, entangled in the jealous web of Peggy Guggenheim, a player in one of the most fascinating and heartbreaking stories of World War II, and later in life moved to the Mid-West where she has lived a quiet life.

Her story really is captivating and I highly recommend The Lives of the Muses: Nine Women & the Artists They Inspired

Good Dog... Goyard

How amazingly fabulous is this Goyard dog carrier?

Scrapple would look so fantastic in it!

He had a scare at the vet today with some rat poison, and I'm so happy he is home tonight. I love my little guy!
