The Greenbrier... Waspy Alice in Wonderland

This weekend, I was invited by a dear friend to be her guest at The Greenbrier while she attended a conference. With Dorothy Draper's over the top decor, I had always been a bit curious about this old resort in the West Virginia mountains.

The interiors smack you in the face and stand in stark contrast to the rustic mountains nestling the gigantic white hotel. It is like a Waspy Alice in Wonderland. Definitely design element take-aways... once you have a sec to digest it all.

The service also was overboard, and while I appreciated the high level of service... it was a bit much for me.

This place is definitely an iconic spot and if you ever have a reason to explore the property, go for it!

But The Greenbrier was an excellent reminder that I am a Prippy... not a Preppy... and my idea of a wonderful getaway is perhaps not so pink and green!

Oooh, what was the service like? I totally agree on the Preepy vs. Prippy... I can only stomach so much contrast!

Let's just say I ordered room service one night and the gentleman was in my room for 15 minutes setting it up (caesar salad and soup!). While I loved the "presentation" of the salad, I also had an international phone call I wanted to take and I truly couldn't get the guy to leave while being polite! It was a bit nutty.

There are plenty of other similar stories. But the staff is also charming with tons of stories and love for the place. One bartender had been there for 41 years!

It is a pricey destination... so make sure it is one you really want to visit. I think I'm more of a Breakers girl ;)

I've always heard of the Greenbrier and Dorothy Draper's decor! Must have been fun to see in person. But service can definitely make or break a place. I would feel the same way!

Definitely fun to see... but after driving through the gorgeous mountains to get there, I felt like I was in a resort that was completely out of place. Just a weird juxtaposition with the beauty of the natural environment.

Cool and special to experience it all none the less! And always wonderful to spend time with friends.

You SO need to go to Mohonk! Take B with you, or let's do a girls trip there sometime. I think you would LOVE it!
